Orbán Viktor travels to the US for World Cup semifinals and final, may meet Trump
Hungarian Prime Minister Orbán Viktor flew to the United States to attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup knockout stage in person. He will watch the France‑Spain semifinal on 14 July at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, the England‑Argentina semifinal on 15 July at Mercedes‑Benz Stadium in Atlanta, and the final on 19 July at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Orbán had announced in Brussels that he would not miss the tournament and said the French team appeared strongest. The trip could also mark the first personal encounter between Orbán and U.S. President Donald Trump since November 2025.
The journey underscores the prime minister’s willingness to combine sport enthusiasm with a rare diplomatic opportunity, though no official agenda beyond match attendance has been disclosed.
