Viktoria Edlund hit by lightning at Angsjön campsite in Sweden

Viktoria Edlund was camping with her family at Angsjön near Bjurholm when a thunderstorm produced hail the size of golf balls and a lightning strike that hit a metal‑framed pallet near her caravan. The electric charge traveled up the pallet into her feet, and she described the sensation: “Pallen lyste upp och jag kände strömmen genom kroppen.” She screamed and threw herself back but reported no pain, only an uncomfortable tingling that lingered for hours. After the incident she was examined at a hospital, where she was found to be unharmed aside from the temporary sensation.

The storm caused extensive damage to the campsite: the restaurant roof was perforated by hail, several caravans and tents suffered dents, broken roofs and water‑filled floors. Regional weather authorities recorded more than 6,000 lightning strikes in Västerbotten during the event, according to SMHI. The family left the site shaken but unharmed, noting the experience highlighted the vulnerability to extreme weather.
