Viktors Valainis to remain in politics after ZZS election loss

Latvian Economy Minister Viktors Valainis has announced that he does not intend to leave politics following the failure of the Union of Greens and Farmers (ZZS) to secure seats in the Saeima elections.

Speaking on the TV3 program ‘900 sekundes’, Valainis stated that leaving at this moment would not be a responsible action. He expressed a commitment to representing the party's voters and taking responsibility for the election results. He noted his duty to the more than 30,000 voters who supported the ZZS.

The Latvian Farmers' Union (LZS) has begun preparations for a congress, which is expected to take place in late January or early February. This process includes regional conferences and branch meetings to elect new leadership. Valainis indicated that both the LZS and ZZS will see new leadership following the congress. Until a new government is confirmed, Valainis intends to continue his duties as Economy Minister.
