Vila do Conde invests 4.9 million euros in new school center

The Vila do Conde Municipality has commenced construction on the new Guilhabreu School Center, a project representing an investment of 4.9 million euros. The initiative aims to consolidate the local school community into a single facility, bringing together students from the Gonçalo Mendes da Maia Basic School, the Parada Basic School, and the São Lázaro Kindergarten.

The project, which is expected to last 24 months, involves the requalification and expansion of the existing Gonçalo Mendes da Maia Basic School. The construction includes the removal of prefabricated structures and the addition of a new building featuring two pre-school classrooms, four primary cycle classrooms, staff areas, a kitchen, and a refectory.

Co-financed by the European Union through the Portugal 2030 program, the development will focus on improving energy efficiency, accessibility, and comfort. The plan also includes the acquisition of adjacent land to create expanded outdoor spaces, including new playgrounds and sports equipment.
