Vila Galé opens first hotel in Maranhão, Brazil

The Vila Galé hotel group has officially inaugurated the Vila Galé Collection Ópera São Luís, marking its first establishment in the state of Maranhão. Located in a revitalized 19th-century building within the historic center of São Luís, the project represents a R$ 100 million investment in hospitality and gastronomy.

The opening ceremony coincided with the inaugural flight of the Lisbon–São Luís route by TAP Air Portugal, a move intended to strengthen ties between Brazil and Portugal and increase international tourism access to the region. The event was attended by various officials, including Vila Galé President Jorge Rebelo de Almeida, Maranhão Governor Carlos Brandão, and Portugal’s Secretary of State for Tourism, Commerce and Services, Pedro Machado.

The hotel features 43 rooms and is themed around opera, music, and performing arts. It includes amenities such as a pool, event spaces, and restaurants. The broader development plan also includes the Vila Galé Collection Poesia São Luís, which is expected to partially begin operations by December 2026.
