Vila Isabel faces infrastructure issues due to theft and neglect

The Vila Isabel neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro is facing significant infrastructure issues due to theft and neglect. According to CET-Rio, more than 40 incidents of cable theft have been recorded this year on Boulevard 28 de Setembro, causing traffic signals to fail. These outages create dangerous conditions for drivers and pedestrians, particularly near the Pedro Ernesto University Hospital.

In addition to traffic disruptions, the Recanto do Trovador Park is suffering from a lack of maintenance and the theft of its perimeter fencing. Residents report that the park has become insecure due to broken gates, graffiti, and accumulated waste, making it difficult for the community to use the space safely.

The Military Police have increased patrolling in the area and are working with the Civil Police to investigate the thefts. The Civil Police noted that the 'Caminhos do Cobre' operation has already led to approximately 270 arrests and the seizure of 300 tons of metallic materials. Meanwhile, the Municipal Infrastructure Secretariat stated that a requalification project for Recanto do Trovador Park is underway.
