Vila Nova de Famalicão has not awarded its Environmental Merit Medal since 2023

The Municipal Environmental Merit Medal, created by the Vila Nova de Famalicão city council in 2023, was awarded only once—to Helena Freitas, director of Parque de Serralves. Although the category remains in the municipal awards regulation, no individual or institution has received the honour in 2024, 2025 or 2026. By contrast, the parallel Science Merit Medal has been presented each year since its inception. The council did not respond to inquiries about why the environmental award has not been granted again.
