Vila Nova do Ceira transforms local stairs into outdoor art gallery

The village of Vila Nova do Ceira has introduced a new outdoor art gallery through the mural “Deixa a Tua Marca!” (Leave Your Mark!). The artwork was painted on the stairs of the local Parish Council headquarters to celebrate the region's history, landscape, and identity.

Created during the second edition of the “Atelier na Aldeia” project, the mural was developed under the guidance of mentor Gina Martins. The initiative involved two teachers and eight students from the São Bento and Almada ateliers. The project, supported by the Municipality of Góis, included various community activities such as graphic journaling by the Ceira River, guided visits to Garganta do Cabril, and visual arts sessions with residents of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Góis care home.

In addition to the mural, the “Atelier na Aldeia” program is linked to the collective exhibition “Memórias de um Lugar” (Memories of a Place), which is on display at the Foyer of the Casa da Cultura de Góis until August 31. The project aims to bring contemporary art closer to rural populations and promote the territories of the interior.
