Sport defeats Vila Nova 1-0 to end winless streak in Série B

Sport defeated Vila Nova 1-0 in a Campeonato Brasileiro Série B match held at the Estádio Onésio Brasileiro Alvarenga in Goiânia. The victory for the Recife-based club ended a nine-match winless streak in the second division.

The decisive goal was scored by Chrystian Barletta just five minutes into the first half. Barletta took the ball from the midfield and executed a long-range shot that looped over the goalkeeper, Helton Leite.

With this result, Sport moved up to seventh place in the standings with 32 points, closing the gap to the G-6 playoff zone. Vila Nova remains in fifth place with 34 points. The loss marked the first time Vila Nova failed to win at their home stadium during the 2026 Série B campaign.
