Vila Praia de Âncora swimming discouraged due to water quality

Swimming at Vila Praia de Âncora beach in Caminha has been temporarily discouraged as a precautionary measure. This follows a communication from the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA) regarding water samples taken at the mouth of the Âncora River.

Provisional results indicated microbiological values exceeding reference parameters. Local authorities state the situation is linked to recent adverse weather conditions and intense precipitation, which increased surface runoff and carried rainwater and other materials into the river. New sampling will be conducted to evaluate water quality before the restriction is lifted.
