Vila Real: Four-year-old girl dies in private pool drowning
A four-year-old girl died following a drowning accident in a private swimming pool in Vale de Nogueiras, Vila Real. Emergency services, including firefighters and a medical emergency team (VMER), attempted resuscitation efforts, but were unable to revive the child.
Local authorities, including the GNR, stated there is no suspicion of a crime. It is believed the child climbed over a fence and fell into the pool. Following the incident, the Association for Child Safety (Associação para a Segurança Infantil) highlighted a legal loophole regarding the safety regulations of private swimming pools, noting a recent increase in drowning mortality rates.
