Vila Real hosts traditional procession with massive religious floats
The Festa em Honra de Nossa Senhora da Pena is holding its central celebrations in the Union of Parishes of Mouçós and Lamares, in Vila Real. The event is highlighted by a traditional procession featuring massive religious floats carried by hand.
Some of these floats reach heights of 23 meters and weigh up to three tons, requiring more than 100 men to transport them. This tradition is inscribed in the National Inventory of Immaterial Cultural Heritage. This year, the village of Alvites is responsible for organizing the festivities, while the village of Pena de Amigo will handle the transport of the largest float.
The four-day program, which runs from Friday to Monday, includes religious ceremonies, traditional music groups, a livestock fair, and various musical performances.
