Vila Viçosa and Ermesinde Host August Community Festivals in Portugal

The municipal council of Vila Viçosa approved a memorandum of cooperation with Omura, Japan, to enable a youth exchange visit in August, recalling a historic 1584 diplomatic visit. The council also announced cultural initiatives, including the inauguration of the Ermida of São João do Carrascal and the "Linha de Encontro" artistic training program for local cultural agents.

In Ermesinde, the parish council organized the annual Festas de São Lourenço scheduled for 7‑10 August 2026. The four‑day programme features concerts, a Majestic procession in honour of Saint Lawrence, folk performances and a midnight fireworks display, aimed at strengthening community ties and preserving local traditions.
