Vila Viçosa secures €368,000 EU‑funded boost for civil protection

The municipality of Vila Viçosa in Portugal has had its proposal “Reforço de Meios de Proteção Civil de Vila Viçosa” approved under the Alentejo 2030 regional programme. The project involves a total investment of €368,244, of which €298,732.50 (85 %) comes from the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER).

Funding will be used to purchase a Forest Tactical Tank Vehicle (VTTF) for the local volunteer fire brigade and a mobile support module comprising a trailer, inflatable tent, furniture and a generator for municipal civil‑protection services. Mayor Inácio Esperança said the purchase is part of a development contract between the Intermunicipal Community of Central Alentejo and the Regional Coordination and Development Commission, emphasizing that "a effective civil protection is one that prevents, not just reacts".
