Vilafranca celebrates 100th Romeria to Montserrat

The parishes of Vilafranca are celebrating the 100th edition of the traditional Romeria to Montserrat from October 16 to 19. Although the first pilgrimage took place in 1921, the count reflects 100 editions due to six years in which the event could not be held.

Commemorative activities include the participation of the Sant Crist de Vilafranca and its Cos de Portants. Key events feature the Sant Crist at the Montserrat basilica during the pilgrims' mass and the Santa Maria Vigil, alongside a traditional Stations of the Cross. To mark the 50th anniversary of the restoration of the Creu de Sant Miquel, a new commemorative plaque will be installed.

The weekend will host over 500 participants, with performances by the Castellers de Vilafranca and Falcons de Vilafranca on Sunday. Additionally, two conferences will be held in Vilafranca to discuss the history and significance of the pilgrimage.
