Vilafranca del Penedès expands cycling network

Vilafranca del Penedès is expanding its cycling network to connect the city with surrounding municipalities, facilitating daily travel via bicycles and electric scooters. The city already maintains connections with Santa Margarida i els Monjos and La Ràpita, Moja, les Cabanyes i la Granada, with ongoing projects to link Pacs del Penedès and Sant Miquel d’Olèrdola.

A new project, the Eix Diagonal Ciclista, will connect Vilafranca with Sant Pere de Riudebitlles through La Granada, Puigdàlber, and Pla del Penedès.

An usage study of the existing five-kilometer lane connecting Vilafranca with Santa Margarida i els Monjos and La Ràpita revealed high activity during weekdays, recording 730 trips per day. Electric scooters accounted for 58% of these trips, while bicycles made up 42%. Notably, women represented 78% of electric scooter users. The study also indicated that 84% of users utilize the segregated lane for safety reasons.
