Vilafranca del Penedès launches Catalan language workshops for students
The Vilafranca del Penedès City Council, through its Local Educational Plan (PEE), is launching linguistic awareness workshops this October aimed at secondary school students. The initiative seeks to promote the social use of the Catalan language among young people, providing them with tools to use it naturally and confidently, particularly in informal and media-driven environments.
Approximately 200 students, primarily from the 3rd and 4th years of ESO, will participate in sessions held at three local secondary schools on October 14, 15, 16, and 23. Conducted by the specialized entity ‘Tallers per la Llengua’, the one-hour sessions will utilize dynamic methodologies to address linguistic prejudices, boost self-esteem, and teach strategies for maintaining Catalan in bilingual conversations.
In a second phase, participating students are expected to act as linguistic mentors and tutors for 1st-year ESO students, sharing the tools and knowledge acquired to ensure the continuity of linguistic awareness within their schools.
