Vilafranca en Comú critiques budget agreements with PSC

The political group Vilafranca en Comú (VeC) has issued a “bittersweet” assessment of the last three years of budget agreements with the PSC-led municipal government in Vilafranca del Penedès. While the group highlights several successful initiatives, they have criticized the ruling party for failing to fulfill certain commitments and for not acknowledging VeC’s role in achieving specific goals.

Key achievements cited by VeC include the construction of the Joana Raspall library, progress in energy transition through solar panel installations on public buildings, the establishment of the Municipal Energy Office, and the implementation of the first participatory budgets, which received 86 proposals. Other successes mentioned include the Local Health Plan and property tax (IBI) subsidies for single-parent families.

However, VeC leaders Ramon Arnabat and Montse Romagosa expressed frustration over unfulfilled promises. Specific grievances include the management of “climate shelters” and the handling of the Old Hospital project, where the PSC reportedly moved forward with a music school study instead of evaluating alternative uses as previously agreed. Arnabat also noted that the PSC government has failed to form a progressive majority despite VeC holding a significant number of council seats.
