Vilafranca en Comú demands improvements to R4 train service
Representatives from Vilafranca en Comú have delivered signatures to the Parliament of Catalonia as part of the campaign ‘Volem anar en tren. Volem una R4 digna’ (We want to go by train. We want a dignified R4). The initiative seeks concrete measures to improve the R4 Rodalies service in the Penedès region.
Key demands include increasing train frequency and improving connections, specifically by extending the RT2 line from its current terminus in El Arboç to include destinations such as Salou - PortAventura, Vendrell, Sant Vicenç de Calders, Torredembarra, Altafulla, and Tarragona. Additionally, the group proposes dividing the R4 line into two separate sections to ensure more agile and resilient service during technical incidents.
During a meeting with deputy Lluís Mijoler, Vilafranca en Comú leaders emphasized that the R4 serves as the ‘backbone of Penedès’ and argued that long-term projects, such as the Orbital Railway Line (LOF), should not be the sole solution for immediate mobility needs in the territory.
