Vilagarcía advances urban infrastructure and sanitation projects

Vilagarcía is undergoing significant urban infrastructure developments involving both pedestrianization and sanitation improvements.

The local government has awarded an 18,000 euro contract to Brota Arquitectura to design a project for the Avenida Doutor Tourón. The plan aims to transform a 2,750 square meter section surrounding the towers at numbers 44 and 46 into a single-platform, landscaped pedestrian space. The project will include topographical surveys and urban network mapping, with a focus on climate change adaptation through increased vegetation and improved drainage.

Simultaneously, the Xunta de Galicia is advancing a major sanitation project in the O Con river. Excavation has begun on the riverbed between the Plaza de Abastos and the Valle Inclán viaduct to install a collector that will connect to a nearby storm tank. These works, including connections on Avenida de Cambados, are causing significant traffic disruptions and rerouting vehicles near the O Piñeiriño neighborhood.
