Vilagarcía de Arousa: Driver found dead after vehicle falls into sea

The body of a driver has been recovered after a container handler fell into the sea at the port of Vilagarcía de Arousa in Pontevedra. The incident occurred on Sunday shortly before 1:00 PM near the O Ferrazo pier.

Security footage from the port shows the vehicle plunging into the water while navigating a curve. Although initially reported as a truck, emergency services clarified that the vehicle was a container handler.

A large-scale search operation was launched involving Salvamento Marítimo, the Salvamar Pollux vessel, the auxiliary boat Irmáns García Nodal, and Gardacostas. Divers initially searched the cabin of the vehicle but did not find the driver inside. The body was eventually located by the crew of the Salvamar Pollux in the surrounding area. The remains will be handed over to the Guardia Civil for further investigation.
