International reports cover political assault, military rape case, and Bolivian legal proceedings

In Spain, Alberto Varela, the Socialist mayor of Vilagarcía de Arousa, reported being physically assaulted and verbally abused with political insults while out with his young daughter. The assailant, identified by the mayor as a known individual, allegedly struck him and grabbed him by the neck. Varela intends to file a formal complaint, citing the incident as a dangerous normalization of political hatred.

In Chile, two active Navy sergeants are in pretrial detention following the alleged rape of a 23-year-old woman inside a military facility on Rapa Nui. The incident reportedly occurred during an unauthorized party. While authorities have confirmed two suspects, the victim's family alleges that at least four personnel may be involved and claims that a guard on duty refused to provide assistance.

In Bolivia, former Interior Vice Minister Jhonny Aguilera faces allegations of torture and criminal organization related to the June 2024 military actions in Plaza Murillo. While some reports suggested an arrest warrant had been issued, Aguilera's defense clarified that he has only been summoned to appear as a defense witness for General Juan José Zúñiga, rather than being charged as a primary suspect in the current hearing.
