Vilanova de Arousa approves 30,000 euros for shellfish bank regeneration

The Vilanova de Arousa council has approved a 30,000 euro subsidy for the local shellfish guild (pósito). The funds are intended for the purchase of seed to regenerate shellfish banks.

The measure was passed with the support of the People's Party, while the PSOE and BNG abstained. The local government, led by Gonzalo Durán, argued the aid is necessary to support a guild facing severe economic difficulties.

Opposition members criticized the decision. The PSOE argued the funds should instead be used to directly support shellfish harvesters who have gone months without pay, calling the initiative a political move. The BNG suggested that priority should be given to protecting the estuary before investing in seeding.
