Vilanova i la Geltrú approves 111.88 million euro budget for 2027
The municipal council of Vilanova i la Geltrú has granted initial approval to its 2027 budget, totaling 111.88 million euros. The budget, supported by the governing coalition of PSC and Vilanova En Comú, represents an increase of approximately 3.5 million euros compared to the current year.
Key allocations within the budget include 14.4 million euros for waste collection and street cleaning, 600,000 euros for public space maintenance, and 550,000 euros for sports facilities. The plan also includes the hiring of 14 new local police officers and a 650,000 euro increase in contributions to AISSA. Additionally, fiscal ordinances will implement a general tax update of 3%.
The opposition, including ERC, PP, CUP, and Junts per Catalunya, voted against the proposal. While the council's finance official, Alfredo Villa, described the accounts as responsible and noted that 2027 would be the first year with self-financed investment capacity, opposition members criticized the spending and called for better long-term planning.
