Barcelona protests erupt against Aliança Catalana act
On the eve of the Diada, significant tension erupted in Barcelona as Aliança Catalana, led by Sílvia Orriols, held a floral offering at the Fossar de les Moreres. The event was met with large-scale protests from antifascist and left-wing independentist organizations seeking to block the presence of the far-right formation in the symbolic memorial site.
According to local authorities, approximately 3,000 people gathered in the Born district. The Mossos d'Esquadra deployed a heavy police presence to secure the area and allow Aliança Catalana to conduct their ceremony, which resulted in several police charges against protesters and multiple arrests. During the event, activists reportedly threw eggs at Orriols.
Parallel to the clashes in Barcelona, various independence movements across Catalonia are organizing for the National Day. In Vilanova i la Geltrú, the 'Marxa de Torxes' continues to advocate for independence linked to social needs, while the ANC is coordinating mobilizations to revitalize the independence movement amidst a period of perceived political stagnation.
