Vilcashuamán mayoral debate suspended due to rule violations
A scheduled debate between candidates for the Provincial Municipality of Vilcashuamán was suspended on September 27. The organizing committee, led by the Vilcashuamán Peasant Community and its president Walter Najarro Ochoa, cancelled the event after participants failed to meet established conditions.
According to the organizers, representatives from the Alianza para el Progreso and Podemos Perú parties arrived late and were accompanied by supporters carrying campaign materials such as shirts, hats, banners, megaphones, and whistles. These actions violated the agreed-upon rules for the encounter. The candidates involved in the disruption were Edgard Mendoza Gutiérrez of Alianza para el Progreso and Alfredo Gómez Martínez of Podemos Perú. The suspension was intended to maintain respect for the rules and the citizenry, as the debate was meant to allow all five mayoral candidates to present their proposals to voters.
