Vili Stadium Animal Shelter Established After Western Attica Wildfires
Wildfires that swept Western Attica, including the Porto Germanou area, forced the evacuation of dozens of animals. The municipality of Mandras‑Eidyllia, together with the animal‑rights group Dogs’ Voice and local volunteers, converted the Vili stadium into a temporary shelter for both stray and owned animals rescued from the fire zones.
Veterinarians examine the animals, which are generally in good physical condition but show signs of fear and stress. Residents visit the site daily to look for lost pets, and several reunifications have already occurred. The municipality oversees veterinary checks and handles adoption contracts at no cost to families, while donations of food continue to support the operation. Antidemarch Dimitris Pagones appealed to owners not to abandon pets in high‑risk areas, emphasizing that animals are not objects to be left behind.
