Villa Altagracia inaugurates new violence victim support unit

The Attorney General's Office of the Dominican Republic has inaugurated new facilities in Villa Altagracia, including an Ordinary Prosecutor's Office and an Integral Attention Unit for Victims of Gender, Domestic, and Sexual Violence.

Attorney General Yeni Berenice Reynoso stated that the initiative aims to bring justice closer to communities, emphasizing that the judicial system must serve the people. The new center will centralize the reception of complaints, psychological and forensic medical evaluations, social intervention, and legal assistance. The facility will be staffed by prosecutors and professionals in forensic medicine, psychology, and social work to facilitate the investigation and judicialization of cases.

Local prosecutor Elizabeth Báez noted that the specialized unit is a significant step toward improving the institutional response to violence against women and families. Reynoso also indicated that community prosecutor offices in Miches and Villa Isabela are scheduled for future inauguration.
