Villa Caraza: Mother seeks justice after infant's death in shooting

Micaela Victoria Torales, 18, is calling for judicial progress following a shooting in Villa Caraza, Lanús, that killed her 11-month-old daughter, Ainoha, and left Torales with life-threatening injuries. The incident occurred in late August at a residence, where a projectile caused the infant's instantaneous death and severely wounded Torales.

While initial police theories suggested the shooting might have been an accident during firearm handling, the family has rejected this version, alleging the attack followed a heated argument.

Currently, the investigation led by the Avellaneda-Lanús UFI No. 8 has one person in custody: Emanuel Agustín Barrios, 22, the infant's paternal uncle. Authorities are also seeking Esteban Gabriel Alderete, the child's father, who is currently a fugitive. Torales expressed frustration with the perceived stagnation of the case, stating, “It all went into nothingness,” as the family demands accountability for all involved.
