Villa Carlos Paz closes Cura Brochero Night Shelter
The Cura Brochero Night Shelter in Villa Carlos Paz has closed after 28 years of operation. Carlos Viotti, the Secretary of Cabinet and Human Promotion, stated that the closure was an institutional decision made by the shelter's own authorities rather than a municipal policy.
Viotti reported that the facility's profile had shifted over time. While originally intended for people seeking health or employment assistance, it increasingly functioned as a shelter for people in street situations. Officials noted that approximately 95% of those staying at the shelter were not residents of Villa Carlos Paz, including workers from the developer Miralejos.
The municipality, which has provided assistance to the shelter since 2007 and increased its support by 30% last year, is responding by launching ‘Puentes VCP’. This new municipal program aims to provide individualized assistance to people in vulnerable situations and facilitate their return to their cities of origin where appropriate.
