Villa Clara to host Cuba's central World Senior Citizens Day event

Villa Clara is preparing to host the central national event for World Senior Citizens Day on October 1 at Parque Vidal in Santa Clara. The celebration, themed “Celebrating life, honoring experience,” will feature cultural, recreational, and sporting activities, including Tai chi and gymnastics.

Dr. Marta Monzón Quintero, head of the Senior Citizen Department for the Villa Clara General Directorate of Health, noted that several organizations, including the departments of Culture, Health, Education, and the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education, and Recreation (INDER), have collaborated on a month-long plan of activities to reach various communities and institutions.

Villa Clara is identified as the most aged province in Cuba, with 29.1 percent of its population aged 60 or older. The province is home to 193,000 older adults, including 146 centenarians and over 11,000 nonagenarians.
