Villa de Ahome flooding forces families into temporary shelters

Heavy rainfall in the Villa de Ahome municipality has caused significant flooding, leading to the preventive relocation of at least nine families to temporary shelters located in the sindicatura building. Mayor Antonio Menéndez de Llano Bermúdez reported that the flooding was likely caused by a drainage overflow, potentially due to a blockage resulting from unauthorized modifications on an adjacent agricultural property.

Emergency response teams, including Civil Protection, Public Works, Firefighters, and DIF Ahome, were deployed to the affected sectors, which include La Florida, Ahome Independencia, and Águila Azteca. Authorities provided food and beverages to vulnerable residents and utilized machinery to clear the drainage blockage. While water levels have begun to recede and the situation is reportedly under control, officials have prepared shelters and food supplies to accommodate up to 300 people if necessary.

In the nearby city of Los Mochis, rainfall caused localized flooding and puddling in common areas, but no shelters were required as public services worked to clear debris from storm drains and grates.
