Villa de Leyva forest fire triggers emergency response in Boyacá
A new forest fire broke out in the El Boquerón sector of Villa de Leyva, Boyacá, on Monday, October 19. The emergency is occurring in a region characterized by difficult topography, complicating containment efforts.
Boyacá Governor Carlos Amaya has ordered the deployment of a specialized helicopter with personnel trained in Chile to assist with the firefighting operations. To bolster local efforts, the Tunja Fire Department has mobilized 10 specialized forest units and a rescue unit to the area.
Authorities are calling for swift investigations to determine the cause of the blaze. This incident follows a significant fire in September that affected more than 1,200 hectares of the Iguaque Sanctuary of Flora and Fauna.
