Villa de Álvarez and Alghero announce cultural and civic merit awards

In Villa de Álvarez, Mexico, Mayor Tey Gutiérrez Andrade and University of Colima Rector Christian Torres Ortiz Zermeño have announced the call for applications for the ‘General Pedro Torres Ortiz’ Civic Merit Award. For the fourth consecutive year, the municipality will recognize citizens and associations that have contributed to fields such as human rights, women's rights, culture, sports, the environment, and public safety. The Torres Ortiz family will match the municipal funding for the award prizes.

In Alghero, Italy, the municipality has announced that Carlo Sechi will be awarded the ‘Fidelitat a l’Alguer’ prize. The award, scheduled for presentation on August 28, recognizes Sechi for his extensive work as a scholar, activist, and administrator in promoting and preserving the Catalan language and the cultural traditions of Alghero.
