Villa de Álvarez parents demand transparency after school threat

Parents at the Octavio Paz Secondary School in Villa de Álvarez, Colima, have expressed frustration over a lack of timely communication following the discovery of a threatening message in female student restrooms. The incident prompted security authorities to intervene the previous day.

During a meeting with school director Cesia Jocabed Yamagushi Figueroa, parents criticized the administration for allowing rumors regarding the nature of the threat—which varied between mentions of a bomb or a weapon—to circulate before official information was provided. In response, the director committed to improving communication protocols and has implemented a new system to log students entering the restrooms to assist in future investigations.

Parents have also proposed implementing backpack inspections and volunteering for campus security watches to increase safety for the school's approximately 620 students.
