Villa de Merlo proposes municipal program to assist indebted families
In Villa de Merlo, Councilor Ana Laura Ferrarotti has proposed the creation of a Program for Accompaniment and Mediation against Family Indebtedness. The municipal initiative aims to provide free legal and financial counseling to families struggling to manage debt.
The program seeks to identify abusive interest rates, irregular clauses, or improper charges. A key component involves the municipality acting as a mediator between indebted families, banks, and other creditors to facilitate reasonable payment plans based on actual household capacity. Additionally, the proposal includes tools to protect resources needed for basic necessities and aims to implement financial education to prevent future over-indebtedness.
Ferrarotti cited data indicating that nearly 93,000 residents in San Luis suffer from indebtedness and delinquency, noting that young adults aged 18 to 25 and women are among the most affected groups.
