Villa degli Aurelii Cottae redevelopment completed in Italy

The Soprintendenza Archeologia, Belle Arti e Paesaggio for the Metropolitan Area of Rome and the Province of Rieti has announced the completion of redevelopment and enhancement works at the Villa degli Aurelii Cottae. The project involved replacing the coverings of the archaeological complex to ensure site safety and protect decorative elements, such as floor mosaics and wall plasters, from weather damage.

Funded through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) under the ‘Caput Mundi – Next Generation EU for major tourist events’ investment line for the 2025 Jubilee, the intervention utilized translucent and transparent polycarbonate honeycomb panels. These new structures were designed to minimize environmental impact while allowing light to filter into originally open spaces like atriums and peristyles. The project also included improvements to the water drainage system.
