Villa Devoto femicide: Walter Verón detained for killing partner
Walter Humberto Verón has been detained following the femicide of his partner, Romina de los Ángeles Calvo, in Villa Devoto, Buenos Aires. The attack occurred in their shared home on Pedro Morán street and was witnessed by the couple's 8-year-old daughter.
Forensic reports indicate that Calvo suffered at least 40 stab wounds, with 22 of those injuries located on her back and neck. Security cameras inside the residence recorded the moments surrounding the crime. Verón was discovered approximately 200 meters from the scene with self-inflicted injuries and remains hospitalized under police custody.
Investigations revealed that Verón had a prior criminal record for domestic violence against Calvo. In 2018, he was sentenced to six months of suspended prison for an incident in La Tablada where he physically assaulted her, causing her to lose consciousness and wounding her finger with a knife.
Verón reportedly left a note mentioning economic and family difficulties. The victim's children, aged 21 and 8, were present in the home during or immediately after the event and are receiving psychological assistance.
