Villa Ferretti hosts press‑freedom forum marking decade of reclamation

The historic Villa Ferretti in Baia, Italy, celebrated ten years since its restoration from a former Camorra strong‑hold to a public cultural site. The two‑day event, organized by the municipal administration led by Mayor Josi Gerardo Della Ragione, featured a series of thematic round‑tables, with the most attended session focusing on “Freedom of the Press and Legality”.

During the press‑freedom panel, journalists discussed the risks faced by reporters in organised‑crime areas, while a symbolic Olivetti Lexikon 80 typewriter belonging to slain journalist Giancarlo Siani was displayed as a reminder of the cost of investigative reporting. Vice‑Mayor Mauro Cucco moderated the discussion, emphasizing the need for transparency and protection of journalists as a barrier against criminal shadows.
