Villa La Angostura land disputes see partial eviction and ongoing legal battles

In Villa La Angostura, judicial proceedings have led to a partial eviction of the Quintriqueo community from a field located 35 kilometers from the town. This action follows a legal process initiated in 2011 regarding land occupied by the Melo and Quintriqueo communities.

Other land disputes in the region remain active. The Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation recently rejected a complaint from the Paicil Antriao community, upholding a 2019 ruling that mandates the restitution of the Correntoso Lake camping area. Similar rulings were confirmed regarding a lot near Puerto Elma.

Several cases continue to be litigated. A ruling regarding the ‘La Posada’ or ‘Tije’ property orders its return, but the Paicil Antriao community has filed an appeal with the Supreme Court. Additionally, a case involving a property belonging to former basketball player Emanuel Ginóbili is currently before the Court of Appeals after a first-instance ruling ordered its restitution.
