Villa María Unveils Giant Solidarity Cheese for MECA 2026
A near‑1,000‑kilogram cheese was presented in Villa María as a flagship attraction of the Mega Exposición del Centro Argentino (MECA) scheduled for 3‑6 September 2026. The cheese, called the Giant Solidarity Cheese, was produced at the L.C.A. SRL dairy plant using a donation of 10,000 litres of milk from local producers.
The ceremony was attended by Mayor Eduardo Accastello, MECA organizer José Iachetta, plant owners Ángel and Martín Barrenechea, and other sector leaders. Accastello highlighted the collaborative dairy ecosystem of the region, while Iachetta explained that the cheese will be auctioned, with proceeds earmarked for powdered milk donations to school canteens and food banks.
The project builds on a previous record cheese made in 2004 and aims to promote Villa María’s dairy basin, one of the country’s most important. The event underscores the community’s effort to combine agricultural pride with charitable purpose.
