Psychiatrist Ylsa Quero accused of complicity in engineer's kidnapping

Psychiatrist Ylsa Emperatriz Quero Cabrera is facing legal action in the Dominican Republic following allegations of complicity in the forced kidnapping and irregular psychiatric commitment of an engineer, Juan Francisco López Chapor.

Prosecutors allege that the victim was violently removed from his construction company in Santo Domingo Este, handcuffed, and injected with an unknown substance before being taken to a mental health center. The investigation suggests the action was carried out by Nancy Estervina de Jesús, the victim's partner, acting on Quero Cabrera's instructions.

While the Public Ministry initially sought preventive detention, a judge has instead imposed a RD$50,000 economic guarantee, periodic reporting requirements, and a travel ban. The defense has contested the charges, arguing there is insufficient evidence linking the doctor to the crime and questioning the validity of statements made by other defendants. The case has sparked debate among medical professionals regarding legal protections for psychiatrists and the protocols for involuntary patient admissions.
