Villa Ocampo issues wildlife warnings amid Paraná River flooding

The Municipality of Villa Ocampo has issued urgent recommendations to protect local wildlife following the rising levels of the Paraná River. As the river floods, numerous species are being displaced from their natural habitats within the Jaaukanigás Ramsar Site, leading them into urban areas, roads, and residential sectors.

To ensure public safety and animal welfare, authorities advise residents not to touch, corner, or feed displaced animals, as doing so can cause unpredictable reactions or harm their health. Pet owners are urged to keep dogs and cats indoors to prevent conflicts with native fauna. Drivers are also requested to reduce speeds on rural roads and city access points to avoid animal collisions.

In the same region, local authorities and institutions recently commemorated the 25th anniversary of the Jaaukanigás Ramsar Site designation. Established in 2001, the site focuses on the conservation and sustainable use of the wetlands in northeastern Santa Fe province.
