Villa Vie Residences unveils Legacy residential cruise ship for 2029
Villa Vie Residences announced that it will reveal details of its second residential cruise ship, Legacy, at a launch event on 30 September. Legacy will be the former Holland America Line vessel Veendam, built in 1996, and is slated to begin sailing in 2029 after extensive refitting. The ship will feature cabins 50% larger than those on the company’s first ship, Odyssey, as well as expanded dining venues, larger public spaces and upgraded wellness facilities. Villa Vie is offering an early sale of 24 residences, allowing buyers to continue sailing on Odyssey for three years before transferring to Legacy with a guaranteed lower maintenance fee.
Odyssey, launched two years ago, sold more than 85% of its available residences and has completed over 660 days of cruising, providing short‑term rentals and fractional ownership for up to 650 passengers. The residential cruise segment remains small, with only a few purpose‑built vessels such as The World operating worldwide. Legacy’s introduction marks the company’s next step in expanding the residential cruising market.
