Villach City Teams Clean Festival Grounds Overnight for Kirchtag

During the Villacher Kirchtag week, city crews begin work before sunrise to keep the festival area spotless. The Wirtschaftshof starts cleaning the town centre at 5 a.m. with foot patrols, washing trucks and sweepers, spending three to four hours each day on the site. Volunteer groups – the Villacher Saubermacher and Stadtgrün staff – handle roughly 55 000 kg of waste, emptying over a hundred extra large containers and collecting additional bags within six hours. Additional tasks include securing the area, setting up detours, installing wheelchair‑ramp sections and decorating the grounds, such as planting protective covers on the main‑square trees and tending to the festival’s floral displays.

Vice‑mayor Sarah Katholnig praised the combined effort, calling the workers “silent heroes” who ensure the venue shines each morning for visitors.
