Villafranca del Bierzo to manage Casa Gil until 2036

The Jardín Romántico del Bierzo will remain open to the public until 2036 following an agreement between the Fundación Biblioteca Enrique Gil and the Villafranca del Bierzo City Council. Under the terms of the deal, the City Council will manage the space for the next ten years through a symbolic annual rent of one euro.

Although the property, which is the birthplace of writer Enrique Gil y Carrasco, is currently for sale, the sale process cannot be finalized until the ten-year agreement concludes. The Fundación Biblioteca Enrique Gil announced that it has fulfilled its primary mission, which was to prevent the imminent ruin of the house and restore its blazoned facade and orchard.

Valentín Carrera, president of the Foundation, stated that the entity served as a tool for urgent restoration and now calls upon public administrations to take responsibility for the project's continuity and to eventually transform Casa Gil into a museum dedicated to the Romantic writer.
