Clinton authorities issue $15,000 in fines for unauthorized wildfire evacuation entry
Authorities in the Village of Clinton have issued more than $15,000 in fines to individuals entering the community without authorization. The village has been under an evacuation order since July 24 due to the Pear Lake wildfire, which was estimated to cover 147,677 hectares as of August 11, 2026.
Police and Conservation Officers are enforcing the order under British Columbia’s Emergency and Disaster Management Act. Officials noted that unauthorized entry poses safety risks to residents, firefighters, and emergency personnel, and can divert critical resources from recovery efforts. The village also addressed concerns regarding looting and suspicious activity captured on home security systems.
While power was restored to the village on August 7, the evacuation order remains in effect. Authorized personnel, including contractors from BC Hydro and TELUS, as well as environmental specialists, continue to work in the area to restore essential services and manage re-entry work.
