Spain's July festivals showcase folk, opera and theatre

A series of cultural festivals will take place across Spain in July. In Comares, the 24th Festival de Verdiales will feature six traditional pandas performing from 20:00 on July 18, supported by the Diputación de Málaga. The operatic initiative Ópera a Quemarropa returns to Alcalá de Henares' Plaza de Cervantes on July 18 with an immersive, audience‑surrounding staging. Santander’s Encuentro de Música and Academia presents two simultaneous concerts on July 18 honoring Manuel de Falla’s birth and death anniversaries.

In the province of Badajoz, the two‑day ‘Villar del Folk’ festival (July 17‑18) will bring folk groups from across Spain to the streets of Villar del Rey, alongside workshops and a traditional food tasting. Los Cerralbos hosts the Innovart ‘Cultura de Pueblo’ festival on July 17‑18, mixing urban art, workshops, a market and live music. Olmedo’s 20th edition of its classical theatre festival opens on July 20, staging Lope de Vega’s ‘El caballero de Olmedo’ and other classic works.

Other notable events include Zamora’s LittleOpera festival (July 24‑26) with new chamber operas, the International Títeres a la Mar festival in Oropesa del Mar (July 20‑26) offering free puppet performances, and a multi‑activity cultural program in Guadalajara featuring magic, a brass band, escape‑room games and folk concerts.
