Villarreal defender Renato Veiga valued at 40 million euros amid Napoli interest

Napoli explored the possibility of signing Villarreal defender Renato Veiga during the summer transfer window, but negotiations stalled due to the Spanish club's valuation. Villarreal set a price of 40 million euros for the 23-year-old Portuguese international, who is under contract until 2032.

Renato Veiga was reportedly a target suggested by coach Massimiliano Allegri to bolster Napoli's defensive line following the loss of several central defenders. Because of the high asking price, Napoli ultimately pivoted to pursuing Benoit Badiashile on a loan deal with an option to buy. The two clubs and the player are now set to face each other in the Champions League.
