Villarreal president Fernando Roig discusses Rodri and Liverpool clash

Villarreal CF president Fernando Roig discussed the club’s history and upcoming Champions League fixture against Liverpool in a recent interview. Roig, who holds the longest presidency in Europe at 30 years, expressed significant anxiety regarding match days, stating, “I don’t get nervous. It’s worse: I get worried, very anxious.”

Roig also reflected on the career of former Villarreal player Rodri (Rodrigo Hernández). He noted that the midfielder spent five years at the club before moving to Atlético Madrid and eventually Manchester City, where he won the Ballon d'Or. Roig stated that the club could not prevent his departure because he “wanted to progress,” adding that the club holds great pride in his achievements and his World Cup victory.

Regarding the club's management, Roig credited his son, Fernando Roig Negueroles, the club's CEO, for directing and executing the team's current path.
